The painting depicts a gate and path leading to an old Martello Tower near Rush harbour in the coastal Irish town of Rush, Co Dublin. This tower is tucked away behind houses through a narrow path and could easily be missed without the help of local knowledge. The first time I visited here felt like going on a treasure hunt which certainly did not disappoint. There are wonderful views out over the Irish sea and Lambay Island from the other side of the tower.
